ESPN does their best to catch everything worthwhile but the simple fact is they can't be everywhere at once, and they don't have the insider contacts like PokerListings.com.
We were there for every second of the Main Event and we've got all the insider intel in this installment of the ESPN Cutting Room Floor.
Two of the biggest names in poker, Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey, played on this Day 1 heat but neither of them got enough of that sweet, sweet ESPN camera time, even though it's pretty sick that Ivey gets it in on the first level with aces v kings and ends up making quads.
The ESPN producers actually tried to engineer a Phil Ivey episode by putting him on the feature table but Phil threw a wrench into their plans by refusing to cooperate. It's not known the exact circumstances but there were a few rumors flying around.
The best was that since the other players at Ivey's table were going to get paid to wear logos Ivey actually paid them all out of his pocket since he was the reason they weren't going to be on TV.
The best story to come out of Day 1d, and one that was confirmed, involved Tom Dwan and his fellow online pro Matt "ADZ" Marafioti.
Towards the end of the day the two were seated together and apparently got bored with the Main Event. They turned to the same things degenerates have turned to since the dawn of time, prop bets.
durrrr bet ADZ $5,000 that ADZ couldn't drink ten shots of Patron in 15 minutes, seriously. ADZ took the bet, downed the shots, grabbed the $5k and lasted barely a level before he got so messed up he had to leave.
Ditching his chips on the table Marafioti bailed on the tournament and went back to his hotel to spend some quality time in front of the toilet.
Ok, that's enough insider stuff for now. Check out the ESPN episode and leave your comments at the bottom.
