Seriously though, that wasn't just to get your attention. I mean it. I just had the worst 4 days of poker I've ever had.

Remember when I posted that sick graph of my shot taking chasing a fish around at much higher than my normal stakes? Well this is basically the opposite of that. Though obviously not the exact opposite or that would really, really, suck.

So, I'm done with taking shots.

I know my goal for 2010 was making $2/$4 my main game and I've been trying too hard for that. I've been forcing the issue, trying to take shots when I'm not ready. It isn't a race. It just needs to happen before 2011.

Now, I do pretty well at $1/$2. My winrate is pretty good for my stakes, it's good, it's not great.

It's better than most but it can be better. That I know for a fact. So why force an early move up when there's room for improvement at my current stakes?

Just because I can beat $1/$2 online doesn't mean I'm ready to play MSNL. It just means that I can beat $1/$2 online.

I'm sick of moving up and getting crushed.

Is there a degree of runbad? Of course. But there's also a degree of bad play. If I had to put a number on it I'd say 80% runbad, 20% playbad. But since I know how the ego works the numbers are probably slightly more skewed to the playbad.

I just simply haven't been playing my best and when you add the runbad on top of that it's going to be tough to win at higher stakes.

So, I want to stop taking shots. I want to focus on $1/$2.

Idea stolen from Ashman? Yes, though much lower stakes.

 

I don't want to be happy just beating the game. I want to crush the game. I want to be one of the bigger winners in that game. THEN I will be happy to move on.

I know I have leaks, everyone does and when I take shots those leaks are magnified.

This is where the freeroll comes in. I'm going to stop taking shots. I'm going to focus on my game, and I'm going to (hopefully) crush.

This will be more than enough time for me to stop focusing on taking shots and allow me to focus on improving as a poker player.

It all starts tomorrow. I'm taking the day off from playing and doing a full leak finding day in Hold'em manager. I'm also going to chronicle the process and write an article so you guys can do the same.
