There aren’t a lot of tournaments where you can go walk away with either $0 or $91,000 in a single hand but the $50k Players Championship is one of them.
With only 16 players of the original 108 players getting paid someone had to be the bubble boy and this year it was the impeccably dressed Ben Yu.
Yu was crippled in a hand of No-Limit Hold’em against Daniel Alaei when Alaei rivered the nut flush against him. He was left with only 3,000 chips and the deathwatch was on.
The good-natured Yu joked with surrounding media and players after he would double his short stack, saying “Get away, vultures!”
Unfortunately for Yu the vultures eventually got their meal when he busted in a hand of Stud-8 to Roland Israelashvili.
After losing Yu simply shrugged, shook Israelashvili's hand and headed for the exit.
Perhaps the only silver lining for Yu is that he didn’t bubble the $1 million buy-in BIG ONE, which is set to take place this weekend.
THAT one is going to sting.
