David Benefield was eliminated late on Day 3.

Belgian poker pro Kevin Vandersmissen put on an impressive performance on Day 3 of the EPT Barcelona while many high-profile players were eliminated.

Vandersmissen, who’s also known by the online handle Civil, built a massive stack of 970,000 chips and trails only Alejandro Perez Torres (990,000) and overall chip leader Tom Middleton (1.03 million).

It was a day where many of the biggest names left hit the rail. Marvin Rettenmaier, Shannon Shorr and Toni Judet all busted in the money.

November Niner David “Raptor” Benefield was eliminated in 110th place and picked up €11,350. The former cash-game pro has now cashed in four straight live tournaments.

Stevic Falls Short in Bid for Second EPT Barcelona Title

Alexander Stevic

Alexander Stevic, who won the inaugural EPT Barcelona in 2004, had a deep run in the 2013 edition but ended up busting just before play concluded for the night.

A total of 79 players survived the day with a large number of Spaniards still in the field.

The big names are few and far between but pros Christopher De Meulder, Jamila Von Perger, Martin Staszko and Mike Watson did make it through.

Everyone left is still chasing the epic €1.06 million first-place prize, thanks to the record-setting 1,230-player field

Action in EPT Barcelona resumes tomorrow at noon CET.
