WSOP says beware bargain Main Event seats
By Erin Warner
The World Series of Poker is warning players not to buy into an offer of 2007 Main Event seats at discounted rates currently circulating on e-mail and instant message.
After fielding several inquiries about the scam, the WSOP released a statement Friday cautioning players to ignore the messages.
Individuals who have contacted the organization said they've been offered a discount on $10,000 Main Event seats via e-mail or IM. The message is from someone claiming to have won the championship seat in a satellite event.
The seller said he can't play in the tournament and offered the seat for $6,000.
Pre-registered seats, however, can't be sold or traded and Harrah's will not honor transferred registrations, the release said.
Furthermore, the WSOP added, those who pre-registered for events this year can receive a full refund of their payment if they can't participate.
"Ask yourself this," the release said. "Why would an individual accept $6,000 for a seat he allegedly won when he can get the full $10,000 refunded?"
