BC tourney to raise money for cancer research
By Sarah Polson
British Columbia Lottery Corporation will host its Third Annual Women's Poker Classic Feb. 21-24 at the Cascades Casino in Langley to help raise money for breast cancer research.
"The Women's Poker Classic continues to be an extremely popular event. It's been sold out two years in a row, so we've added a third event this year," said Darryl Schiewe, BC Lottery Corporation vice president of casino gaming.
"We can now accommodate more players, offer an even bigger prize pool and raise more funds for breast cancer research. We invite all female poker fans to come out and show their support for such a worthy cause."
The Women's Poker Classic will begin with a players' reception on Feb. 21 and the following days include three Texas Hold'em events:
- Feb. 22: $200+$20 Limit Hold'em event with an estimated prize pool of $70,000 based on 360 players.
- Feb. 23: $200+$20 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout event with an estimated $39,000 prize pool based on 200 players.
- Feb. 24: $500+$50 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event with an estimated $175,000 prize pool based on 360 players.
Poker players can get into the events for much less cash as well through satellite games that are currently available through participating casinos.
Players age 19 and older can register for the events by phone at (877) 750-1501 or in person at the Cascades Casino.
Cascades Casino will donate $50 to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region for each player who enters the tournaments. If the events sell out, that could mean as much as $46,000 in donations for breast cancer research.
