Heritage Malta Brings Original Battle to Life at BoM 2016
Over the first four editions of the PokerListings Battle of Malta, from 2012-2015, our focus has been on "making" history. Breaking the record for biggest poker tournament ever held on the island in each event, we did that. In 2016, for our fifth edition, we again broke our records for biggest tournament ever held on Malta and our largest collective prize pool at €1,295,853.15. But this time around, we also spent some time bringing some of Malta's fascinating and important history to our players.

Photo Blog: Get Ready for the 2016 Battle of Malta
There are bigger, richer poker festivals than the Battle of Malta but the small buy-in series is hard to top when it comes to the sheer amount of activities jammed into an eight-day schedule. For over a week the Portomaso Casino is turned into a fortress of poker proportions with cash games, tournaments, satellites and world-famous host Maria Ho. There’s plenty to do outside the casino as well with BOM-themed VIP clubs, pool parties, brunches and more.

Get Together and Feel Alright: A Quick Guide to Malta Bars & Nightlife
If you've been to the Battle of Malta before you know it's not only about coming to the Portomaso Casino to play poker. For some that's even just the side dish to the REAL centerpiece of the BOM - the parties off the tables. With a spectacular setting and the kind of climate that demands regular stops at each seaside kiosk for a quick sip it's very hard not to get in the spirit of good times. After a hard day at the tables - and with the new Betting Connections bar and lounge within arm's reach - a cocktail is also usually just the ticket. Get Your Feet Wet: Malta's Best Sand Beaches
You might be surprised to know that there are only a handful of sandy beaches on Malta. Most of the coastline is actually covered by rocks and only in a few bays will you find short stretches of sand.  During the summer then, as you might expect, the few beaches to be found are pretty packed -- even on weekdays. In the beginning of November though, with the weather still plenty warm enough to enjoy the sun and sand, those beaches are almost all yours for the taking. Especially early in the morning. And if you're a swimmer the opportunities are everywhere.

Top Five Nearby Spas for Unwinding During the Battle of Malta
One of the less-appreciated but key things you need to succeed in a long poker tournament is a state of relaxation in both body and mind. Getting some exercise definitely helps but there's nothing quite like a massage, sauna or bath to ease yourself off the adrenaline high of a big pot or prepare you for a long day. In short: the spa is the best option to unwind from stress and maintain your relaxed state either before or after the cards hit the air. Thankfully the Portomaso Casino and Hilton Hotel, where the 2014 Battle of Malta festival will be held, is very close to five of the best spas on the island.
