Barnhart Takes Down WSOPC National Championship

Fifty-year-old software analyst Sam Barnhart is the inaugural WSOPC National Champion, pocketing $300,000 for the win at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas yesterday.

The $1 million event was the culmination of the 2010/2011 World Series of Poker Circuit season with only 100 qualifiers earning seats by virtue of their performances on the Circuit this year.

Barnhart earned his seat by winning the WSOPC Main Event in Tunica in February and now has over $450k in career poker earnings - all within the past four months.

“This is a wonderful feeling," Barnhart said shortly after his win.

"It’s one of the best feelings I have ever had in my life. To come here and win this is every poker player's dream come true.”

Heads-up play at the final table lasted only about 10 minutes, with Barnhart dominating runner-up Jim Anderson.

Having decided to take a year off from his job and pursue poker after his win in Tunica, Barnhart says he had a feeling he would win again - just like he did in Tunica.

“I’ve never said this before. But on the second day, when I was playing in Tunica, it just came upon me.

"I said I was going to win. I had this self-intuition that I was going to win it.

"I don’t know. It’s hard to explain. It was really strange. Then, yesterday afternoon I came in and I had the same feeling.

"These were the only two times I felt that way, and I had the feeling on the second day of both tournaments that I won ..."

The final results were as follows:

1. Sam Barnhart $300,000

2. James Anderson $200,000

3. Joshua Evans $135,000

4. La Sengphet $100,000

5. Jonathon Poche $75,000

6. Charles Moore $55,000

7. Drazen Ilich $42,500

8. Adam Hui $35,000

9. Matt Lawrence $30,000

10. Huy Nguyen $27,500

The WSOPC National Championship is also officially the first bracelet event of the 2011 WSOP.

Barnhart will receive his bracelet on Wednesday at the Rio in the traditional WSOP gold bracelet ceremony.
