Bad beat bursts bubble at L.A. Poker Classic
By Erik Sylven
Fifty-four players in the L.A. Poker Classic will get at least $22,780 in prize money - Denny Lee will get nothing. Unlucky Lee was eliminated on the bubble on a bad beat when his A-T lost against Markus Stranzinger's T-5.
Of course, PokerListings.com was there to watch the dramatic final hand of Day 3 of the L.A. Poker Classic go down:
"Denny Lee moves the last of his $17,000 into the middle and Markus Stranzinger makes the call in the big blind, showing Td-5s to Lee's Ah-Ts. It looks like we'll be playing a little more hand for hand, but the flop comes 9h-8h-5d and the board finishes out 4d-3d, pairing Stranzinger's five and sending Denny Lee home on the bubble."
Denny Lee left the Commerce Casino empty-handed, but he was certainly in good company. Several big names were also eliminated during Day 3 of the popular WPT event, including Michael Mizrachi, Erik Seidel, Ted Forrest, Minh Ly, Steve Dannenmann, Barry Greenstein, Jeff Schulman, Prahlad Friedman, and Scott Clements.
With half the tournament played, 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Paul Wasicka tops the field with $900,000 in chips. Bill Edler is in second place with $750,000 and Chris Bell is in third with $600,000.
Day 4 will start at 3:30 p.m. (PST) and continue until 18 players remain. Stay tuned for more exciting coverage from PokerListings.com reporters Matt Showell and Owen Laukkanen, who will be there to keep you updated on all the action in our Live Tournament Section.
