Aussie wins inaugural PanAsia Poker Tour event

By Erin Warner

Mark it in the books - Australian Marcus Collins is the winner of the first-ever event on the PanAsia Poker Tour. The Aussie scooped the title and a $26,775 payday at the Airport Casino Filipino in the Philippines earlier this month.

After battling among 75 players at the felt during the two-day $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em event, the 30-year-old squeaked into the final table with a pitifully short stack. There, he knocked out two hometown boys - Alan Escano and Derick Hernandes of the Philippines - to triple up.

After Mark Vos of Australia, Elton Tsang of Hong Kong and Japan's Rikio Morimoto were taken out, Collins saw heads-up poker action with fellow Aussie John Vincent.

Vincent didn't last, however, and was eliminated going all-in with an Ace-Ten to Collins's Ace-Queen. By finishing in second place, Vincent earned $19,125.

Prize money for the tournament totaled $76,500.
