The main event of the Asian Poker Tour stop in Macau may run from Aug. 27-31, but the tour will officially begin its Macau leg on Tuesday with a full day of events at the Galaxy StarWorld Casino Resort and Hotel.
First up on the agenda is the opening of the APT Poker Room on Level 2 of the Galaxy StarWorld Casino. The opening will take place at 3:30 p.m., and will be followed at 4:30 p.m. by a book signing by Doyle Brunson in the lobby.
Brunson took some much needed time off in Montana to get away from poker for a while after the World Series of Poker wrapped up in Las Vegas, and he's forgoing the World Poker Tour stop at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles to test the poker waters in Macau instead.
The 10-time WSOP bracelet holder will be on hand to meet fans until 6 p.m. and sign copies of his books.
At 7 p.m., the poker action will finally get started with a special charity Celebrity Poker Challenge. Matt Savage is hosting the event, and all proceeds will go to the Caritas De Macau.
Caritas De Macau is the social service organization of Macau. Its goal is to provide services to the individuals, families, communities and societies to help them live in a more humane condition economically, morally and spiritually.
Brunson is planning to play in the charity event, and Manny Pacquiao, the first Asian boxer to win four world titles in different divisions, will be bringing his fight to the poker felt. The charity game will also feature actor Michael Wong, singer Renee Dai and commentator Angie Mak.
Adding even more glamour to the event will be models Natalie Ng, Erica Yuen, Janice Man, Cha Cha and Wylien Chiu, plus Miss Hong Kong winner Tracy Ip and glamour model Tila Tequila.
"We are delighted to bring the APT to Macau and really excited about offering Asia's largest ever guaranteed prize pool. The charity poker challenge will be good fun, and, most importantly, it is an aid of a brilliant charity in Caritas De Macau," said Chris Parker, APT CEO.
"I'm looking forward to Manny Pacquiao going head-to-head with Doyle Brunson," Parker said. "Manny never goes down but will we see the flyweight king get knocked out by the heavyweight poker legend? That said, perhaps both will get distracted by all the models at the table!"
After the Celebrity Poker Challenge the APT will also host an exclusive after party at StarWorld's famous Whisky Bar. Participants may want to take it a bit easy that night, however, if they're planning on playing in the APT Macau main event the next day.
The main event has a $5,300 buy-in and is guaranteeing a $1.5 million prize pool. Poker pros from around the world such as Johnny Chan, Doyle and Todd Brunson, J.C. Tran, Kenny Tran, John Juanda, Liz Lieu, Nam Le, Quinn Do, Steve Sung, Mel Judah, Huck Seed and more are expected to play in the two-day event.
A few of them may event stick around to check out the exclusive high-roller event as well. On Friday, the APT will host a $1 Million HKD buy-in high-stakes cash game featuring the world's best players.
Brunson will also be on hand Wednesday, Aug. 27, for a second book signing from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
