PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Spring Festival of Poker Returns in May
PokerStars and the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour are returning to the Asian gaming hotbed of Macau this May.
The PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Spring Festival of Poker will run at the PokerStars Macau Poker Room at Casino Grand Lisboa from May 3-23.
APPT Macau, which first brought poker to the island off the coast of Hong Kong in 2007, has set the mark as the richest poker tournament in Asia every year since.
With 25 events over three weeks, PokerStars expects this incarnation of the event to be the biggest yet.
"The success of APPT Manila means huge numbers are expected for APPT Macau," said APPT President Jeffrey Haas. "It seems that these years of nurturing poker's growth in Asia are really starting to have a positive effect on the game's growth across the region."
The $40,000 HKD ($5,160USD) main event is scheduled for May 18-23.
In 2009, 429 players from 46 countries played with 25-year-old Irish live satellite winner Dermot Blain outlasting them all to claim a $541,072 first-place prize.
All the action kicks off Monday, May 3 with a series of satellites.
A number of innovative tournaments are on the schedule, including a $1,000 HKD deep stack event, a $1,500 HKD No Limit Hold'em Express tournament in which players only have 20 seconds to act, a $2,000 HKD bounty tournament in which every player has a $500 bounty on their head and a mega satellite freeroll into the main event featuring $500 rebuys.
There is also an $88,800 high roller event scheduled for May 18.
Russian Vladimir Geshkenbein bested Johnny "The Orient Express" Chan heads up to win that title last year.
"I played the very first APPT Macau in 2007 and I've been amazed at how quickly poker has taken off in this region," said Team PokerStars Pro and 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Joe Hachem.
"The APPT is now by far Asia's largest and richest poker tour and has seen incredible growth."
