Amit on Fire: Top 10 Weekly Winners/Losers

Rafi Amit
Rafi Amit

Rafi Amit proved he could hang with the big dogs over the last week by crushing nearly everyone for $592k.

Amit is known as one of the best live PLO players in the world but he isn't quite as established in the online world.

That seems to be changing this year as Amit is up $1.29 million on PokerStars and making an all-out assault on the top earnings leaderboard.

Unfortunately for Phil Galfond, he had the opposite experience over the last week and took a serious beating.

Galfond lost $273k to lead all the losers and will be looking for a quick turn around next week.

In other high stakes news the PartyPoker games continue to creep their way into our top 10 biggest pots. It seems to be only a matter of time before PartyPoker and the iPoker network have a burgeoning high stakes scene of their own.

As always you can visit out online poker stats section for more information on the biggest hands from the last week.

Check below for a breakdown of the top 10 winners and losers this week.

Top 10 Biggest Winners

As mentioned above it was certainly Rafi Amit’s week but it very nearly could have been Ilari Sahamies topping the charts.

Sahamies was absolutely killing it in the early stages of the week but seriously dropped off towards the end of the week and lost over $200k over the last two days.

The aggressive Finn is still one of the top earners this year with $736k in profit.

Meanwhile Niki Jedlicka, who, in many ways was the original Isildur1, recorded a very nice week with $199k in profit. Unfortunately he’s still trying to dig himself out of a $200k hole in 2011.

Some of the other notable winners this week included English pro Rob “Vaga_Lion” Akery, Ben “Ben86” Tollerene and Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen.

Andreas “Skjervoy” Torbergsen, who was not particularly active this week, remains the biggest winner on PokerStars this year with $1.4 million. Rafi Amit is now his closest competition with $1.3 million.

Here’s a complete look at the top 10 winners this week.

Top 10 Biggest Losers

Phil Galfond was the biggest loser this week but Rui Cao, who had been competing for biggest winner of the year, also had a rough seven days of poker.

Cao lost over $200k and is down to $1.2 million on the year, which is quite a drop considering he was close to passing Skjervoy, who has $1.49 million on the year.

Meanwhile Ben Grundy, who essentially started playing the high stakes PLO games because he was bored, lost a total of $208k.

Grundy is one of the best PLO grinders in the world but has never been known for playing the nosebleed games.

Former EPT winner Ronnie Kaiser also had a rough week dropping a total of $146k, which represents a massive portion of his profit this year. Kaiser is down to $300k in profit on the year.

Finally Brian Hastings was stinging after one of his first weeks in Vancouver (check our exclusive Hastings interview). Down a total of $120k on the week it can only get better for the U.S.-born pro.
