'Amarillo Slim' Preston robbed again
Legendary poker player Thomas Austin "Amarillo Slim" Preston was robbed Sunday night. According to a report on Amarillo.com, two armed men attacked Slim at his home and stole a large amount of cash, two shotguns and an invaluable belt buckle.
Preston returned from a basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs around 6 p.m. Sunday night and found the two robbers, one masked and one unmasked, in his apartment.
The 78-year-old Preston was stripped and tied at the hands and feet. At one point, the news outlet said, one of the robbers shoved a shotgun into his belly.
"I told him, I said now 'Pull the trigger on that damn thing or put it down,'" Preston said on the Web site.
The robbers left the apartment with a large amount of cash, two shotguns and an invaluable belt buckle Preston had made in Seattle over 40 years ago.
Preston told Amarillo.com he will miss the belt buckle, which has "Amarillo Slim" emblazoned on it in platinum, the most. He is willing to offer a reward for its return.
Preston wasn't hurt during the robbery and when he finally managed to untie himself he went down to the apartment building's office, where a woman alerted the police.
This is the second time Preston has been robbed in four months. In October his car was cut off and an armed man got out of another vehicle, demanding money.
That time Preston said no, and slammed his car into reverse. As he drove away, the robbers fired three rounds at his car, with two rounds striking it.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, both cases are under investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
Despite the two recent run-ins with armed robbers, Preston is set on staying in his home town.
"I am too old to let some pimp, drug dealer, dopehead make me do that. I have been advised to, but I am going to stay right where I am, and I want everyone to know it." Preston said.
