AC Hilton dealers vote down union
By Sarah Polson
The question was whether the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort dealers were going to unionize. The answer: no.
The Associated Press reported the dealers voted Saturday against joining the United Auto Workers by a slim 316-268 margin.
Workers in five Atlantic City casinos so far have taken under consideration whether to unionize. Of those, Ceasars Atlantic City and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino workers have voted overwhelmingly in favor of it.
Atlantic City Hilton workers chose to reject unionization, joining workers at the Trump Marina Hotel Casino who also voted no earlier this month.
Bally's Atlantic City dealers are scheduled to vote on unionization June 2. They will be the latest in an effort to bring dealers from all 11 casinos in Atlantic City into the union.
Joe Ashton, director of UAW Region 9, said in a statement issued Sunday, "Casino workers are standing up for their rights, and we're proud to support them every step of the way."
