A Night in the Life of WSOPE Tournament Chips

Ever wonder what happens at the end of each day to the thousands of chips bandied around in a big poker tournament?

PokerListings France's Fred Guillemot gives us a step-by-step photo report from Day 3 of the 2013 WSOPE for reference.

The first clue that the day is almost over: The chip bags make an appearance:

As soon as the clock is stopped and the last hand played, things get messy at the tables:

Remaining players write names and chip counts on the bag and on a paper slip:

Canadian Yann Dion does this a lot:

Chip leader on Day 3, German Dominik Nitsche, has a bit more work than the others to count and pack his chips:

Close the bag carefully:

Bags are sealed thanks to their auto-adhesive tape:

Bags are first sorted at the tables:

Bags are on the move:

Mess of bags, episode 2:

In the meantime the trunk which will receive all the chips is patiently waiting:

Time to put some order to all that:

Now it's time for the organizer to prepare the "redraw" on their computers, which means the draw of player seat positions and tables for the next day.

The new seating is determined and printed and new positions are written on the bags:

New seating info written in black marker:

English player Mark Teltscher and his 105,100 chips will then be at table 10, seat 6 tomorrow.

Bags are ordered according to their new tables:

It might not look it but everything is in perfect order here now:

Bags still have to be tied together according to their new table with a recap ticket stapled to it:

The trunk is now ready to be filled:

Bags are arranged neatly:

This time we're all good:

Trunk is closed:

The trunk now goes to a closed-circuit-monitored storeroom. For obvious reasons, this is where our journey ended:
