888poker's Dominik Nitsche: Berlin “Perfect Choice” for WSOP Europe
This fall three-time WSOP bracelet winner Dominik Nitsche will have the chance to chase bracelet number four on his home turf in Berlin.
The German poker pro has been a force on the live tournament circuit since he broke onto the the scene in 2009 by winning LAPT Uruguay for $381,000.
Since then he's racked up over $4.4 million in winnings and he told PokerListings.com that Berlin has all the right ingredients to make a great stop for the World Series of Poker Europe.
“I'm looking forward to it” Nitsche told PokerListings in Las Vegas. “I think Berlin is a perfect choice.”
The last WSOP Europe was held just outside of Paris in a suburb called Enghiens-les-Bains and although it was a stunning location, it lacked action and variety poker players crave.
“It's a big step up from Enghiens-les-Bains,” he said.
“Poker players always have a better time in big cities. A lot of the community is pretty young and they like going out and good nightlife.”
Another thing Germany has a lot of are poker players. A country of over 80 million, Germany has taken to poker thanks in part to accomplishments by players like Nitsche.
Nitsche says the tournaments are going to be packed and he can't wait to play in front of a home crowd.
“In Berlin I get to play for a bracelet in my home country. It will be great. I'll have quite a lot of people cheering me on and have great support.
“I'll be there to chase it but bracelets are special no matter where you win them.
“Whether it's in Australia, Paris or Berlin. A bracelet is special to me anywhere so I'm not putting any extra pressure on myself.
"I'll just be there to play my best and hopefully it can work out."
Sponsorship a Long-Time Goal for Nitsche
Just last month Nitsche was picked up by 888poker and he says it's something he's been working towards for a long time.
That Nitsche has long been a player on 888poker and he's known the people behind the site for years helped make it a perfect fit.
It's been a great ride so far,” said Nitsche. “I've already made one final table in one of my first tournaments playing for 888. If I can make a run for them in the Main Event that would be great.
“I understand that to get a sponsorship deal these days you have to provide value to the site so I look forward to doing this by making lots of runs and being present on the site.
“I do play every live tournament ever so they'll get plenty of coverage. Eventually I'll have to win something.” (Laughs)
It's true that sponsorship deals are rare these days but it's also hard to argue that Nitsche is undeserving of the recognition.
When he won his third bracelet last year he became the youngest player ever to win three, snagging that honor from the venerable Phil Ivey.
