888poker Lets Loose $500k Super Whale on January 15
The Whale is a $600 buy-in tournament with $120k guaranteed that runs every other Sunday on 888poker.
The “Baby Whale,” which runs on alternate weeks, is the same event but with a lower buy-in of $320 and $100k in the prize pool. It's one of the most popular tournaments on 888.
On January 15, get ready for an extra-large prize pool, longer late registration and re-entries as a one-time “Super Whale” tournament is on the docket.
Past winners of the Baby Whale have taken up to $29k for first prize but on Jan. 15 that amount will be dwarfed as the prize pool is guaranteed to be a massive $500,000 - and that’s only if the guarantee isn’t broken.
1,000+ Players, $100k to Winner
The $500k Super Whale Special Edition starts on Sunday, January 15 at 7 PM GMT/8 PM CET and instead of the usual 300-400 players, this time more than a 1,000 players are expected at the tables.
With that many players first prize would hover around $100k.
You can qualify for the Super Whale through 888poker’s steps system but there’s also a special satellite on on Jan. 15 at 5:30 PM GMT.
This satellite runs right up to the Super Whale and will send at least 50 players to the target tournament.

Low Buy In, Great Structure
Jan "hownorez" Nakládal from the Czech Republic won the Baby Whale in April 2016 for $26,334. He'll be back for the special edition.
“I like the Baby Whale mostly for its structure," he says. "It’s decently deep all the time so you have a plenty of space to make your moves, wait for your spots and so on.
"You don’t really need to rush. Since it has a lower buy-in than the regular Whale it’s tempting to play for a lot of players, so it’s more fun to compete with different people. I think it has a good value because there are plenty of satellites into the tournament.”
“I’m pretty sure I will play the Special Edition because it will attract a lot of recreational players. My strategy will be the same strategy I apply for deep-stacked tournaments with good structures - just be tight before antes come into play, wait for my spots, and then start to open up more while using my tight image to steal pots. We will see how it will work this time.”
This could be your perfect start into the poker year 2017, a year that also features early top events like the Super XL Series VII and the Make It Big 888Live festival at King's Casino Rozvadov.
