888.com World Heads-Up Championship on tap
When the seventh annual World Heads-Up Poker Championship dawns in Barcelona today, poker fans will find the same great action at the same great venue, Casino Barcelona, but with a brand new sponsor front and center: 888.com.
Now the "888.com World Heads-Up Poker Championship," 128 players will be going head-to-head in single elimination No-Limit Texas Hold'em matches for the next eight days, until May 29.
And on that final day: The winner of the 888.com WHUPC 2007 will take home a pleasing €125,000 from a €320,000 total prize pool, with the final 16 all seeing a piece of the spoils.
Everybody involved also seems to be quite pleased about the arrangement.
"This is an exciting period for 888.com," says Matt Robinson, Marketing Director of 888.com.
"We're continually looking at new events to associate the brand with, and to be the title sponsor of the largest heads-up poker tournament in the world continues to help 888.com cement its position as one of the leading poker rooms."
Jon Shoreman of the World Heads-up Poker Organisation adds, "It is extremely gratifying to be able to attract a title sponsor with the credentials of 888.com.
"The WHPC is known among players for the quality and integrity of its playing structure. We are honoured to have this recognised by a site like 888.com."
The 888.com-owned Pacific Poker has also been running online qualifiers for the last two months, and 12 of its players will be in the field when action gets underway.
