For those with a gambling spirit, transcontinental flights are going to seem just a little bit shorter following 888.com's Friday announcement of its plans to enter the airline entertainment industry.

The world's largest online casino is partnering with in-flight software developer DTI to take gambling to the skies.

The plan is to offer blackjack, roulette, slots and other popular games on the 888.com network in real-money or free play, depending on flight routes and regulatory environments.

Montreal-based DTI has more than 12 years of in-flight entertainment experience and provides its services to leading international airlines such as British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways.

The joint venture fits with the 888.com objective to offer every game everywhere and to expand its global reach, said company CEP Gigi Levy in a release.

DFI is also praising the initiative as a winning combination of online casino know-how and non-traditional operating platforms.

"We took our time to make sure we would partner with the most recognized name and company in its field," said DTI CEO Nicolas Belanger.
