German poker sensation and 888poker ambassador Dominik Nitsche is in contention for Player of the Year after an extremely successful summer.

Nitsche recorded six cashes at the 2015 WSOP, one of them a third place in the $5k NLHE event for $220k, to climb way up the Global Poker Index.

While the WSOP main event was playing out at the Rio, Nitsche took a quick trip to Bellagio and played in the Bellagio Cup XI, eventually finishing runner-up to Sean Winter. That second-place finish was worth another $480k.

Even after all that Nitsche still had a thirst for poker and decided to delay his return to Europe.

Instead he traveled with a number of the North American pros to Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina for the $10k WSOP National Championship.

Loni Harwood won the National Championship outright with Daniel Negreanu finishing sixth but Nitsche managed to sneak into the money finishing 15th.

Nitsche is now ranked 8th in the official overall GPI rankings and is in seventh place in the POY 2015 rankings for four weeks, after having finished 2014 in 214th place of the POY race.

Headed Back to Europe for WSOPE Berlin

As of this month Nitsche is finally back in Europe and is busy playing satellites for WSOPE in Berlin on 888poker.

Nitsche recently told PokerListings Berlin was the "perfect choice" for the WSOP.

“In Berlin I get to play for a bracelet in my own country. It will be great. I’ll have quite a lot of people cheering me on and have great support.”

But even before that, Nitsche is heading to Barcelona to start off the new EPT season as a GPI top ten player.

“I’m super happy to have finally made it into the top ten of the GPI but I think it’s only the beginning,” he said.

“I’ve only started playing high roller events recently and I feel with my busy schedule it’s only a matter of time before I crack the top 5. The goal obviously is to become #1 and if Barcelona and Berlin go well I’m sure you’ll see my name up there soon.”

Nitsche is also leading both German national rankings, putting him above elite German grinders like Ole Schemion, Fedor Holz and George Danzer.
