300-plus and counting for Irish Poker Open
They're almost halfway to a full field, and there's no shortage of poker luminaries signed up to play the €2 million Irish Poker Open. Up to 700 players might hit the felt, and tournament organizers' eyes are already smiling at the players set to take a seat.
The second longest running poker tournament in the world, the Irish Open doubles in size this year to a €2 million guaranteed prize pool (and €550,000 for the winner), ensuring a fair share of poker's finest make the trek to Dublin's Burlington Hotel this Easter weekend.
And they've already begun letting themselves be known.
In amongst the O'Reillys (3), the O'Learys (2), the O'Connors (3), and the Bhupinders (1):
Some of the world's best - from both sides of the pond - including Hendon Mob members Joe Beevers and Barny Boatman, Dave Colclough, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott, well-known American player and television host Chad Brown, and, of course, reigning champ Vincent Melinn.
The television schedule has also been announced, with extensive coverage slated on Ireland's national broadcaster RTÉ.
Highlights of all the day's action will be featured in a dedicated 90 minute program each night on RTÉ Two, with shows airing Sat.-Mon. from 11:25 p.m. (GMT).
Former girl-band star and Top of the Pops presenter Liz Bonnin will host, and commentary will be added from the legendary "voice of poker," Jesse May.
