2016 Irish Poker Open Kicks Off at Citywest in Dublin

The longest-running poker event in Europe is once again live at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.

The 2016 Irish Poker Open €1,250 buy-in Main Event began earlier today with hundreds of players registering for the iconic tournament.

As you might expect there’s a large collection of U.K. poker talent in the field including Andy Black, Barny Boatman, Dermot Blain and Fintan Gavin.

The tournament will offer two starting days with Day 1b kicking off tomorrow at noon.

New Buy-In, €500,000 Guarantee

This year’s Irish Poker Open features a new lower buy-in of €1,250, which organizers believe will boost attendance for the tournament.

Organizers are guaranteeing a €500,000 prize pool this year but that number is expected to be easily eclipsed.

The Irish Poker Open is actually the longest-running No-Limit Hold’em tournament in Europe and only the WSOP has been going longer on a global scale.

Joe Beevers, Marty Smyth, Neil Channing and Kevin Vandersmissen are just a few of the notable players who won the ultimate prize at the Irish Poker Open.

Last year Greek online qualifier Ioannis Triantafyllakis outlasted a field of 321 players to win the top prize of €209,500. Irish poker legend Donnacha O’Dea finished fifth for €61,850.

In addition the Main Event there are a series of side events and cash games running at the Irish Poker Open.
